  • After being turned away at an audition for Menudo in the early '70s, he quickly joined another all-male group, Los Chicos, in 1978
  • After Los Chicos separated by the mid-80s, he would continue his music career as a solo artist, eventually signing with RCA and later Sony
  • Released his first solo album, Chayanne es mi Nombre, in 1984, but would only gain widespread success by the late '80s following the release of his third studio album with Sony Music
  • Transitioned to acting by the late '80s, eventually making his Hollywood debut in 1998's "Dance with Me", a role that would earn him two ALMA Award nominations
  • Was given the nickname of Chayanne by his mother who loved the 1950s series, "Cheyenne"
  • Was the first Spanish-speaking spokesperson to sign an international ad campaign with Pepsi
