• Graduated from the Southwestern Theological Seminary with a degree in Divinity in 1957 and earned his Master's and Doctorate of Theology from the Luther Rice Seminary in 1968 and 1971
• Began his ministry training in 1947 and was ordained at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church in 1956
• Started out as a pastor at the Fruitland Baptist Church in North Carolina and taught at the Fruitland Bible Institute
