• Attended Northern Illinois University before leaving early to pursue acting full-time
• Quote: "I was never really a career woman, you see․ My life always came first․ When I got nominated for 'Diary of a Mad Housewife,' I didn't think, 'Aah, now I'll get more money․' My dream had always just been to do my works well, fall in love and build a life for myself․"

• After returning to Hollywood following a hiatus, she would eventually move to New York to make her Broadway debut in 1981 with A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking
• Made several small television appearances, some unaccredited, before gaining critical acclaim for 1970's "Diary of a Mad Housewife" for which she would earn two Golden Globes as well as an Oscar nomination
• Took an eight year hiatus from acting to parent her son, who was born with cerebral palsy, whom she shared with rocker Neil Young
