• Earned a B․S․ in Engineering from Cornell University in 1986, then went on to earn his MFA in acting at Penn State University
• Worked in regional theater for several years before moving to Los Angeles in 1992
• While trying to make it as an actor, he supported himself by teaching an SAT prep class and working a second job that required wearing a hair net
