• Studied Music at the University of Syracuse and also trained in Paris
• Was the father of pop singer Jack Jones, with whom he toured the nightclub circuit in the late 1940s
• Made his first film appearance as Allan in "Reckless" in 1935
• Appeared on Broadway in the revival of "Bitter Sweet" in 1934
• Best known as a tenor and for his role as Ricardo in "A Night at the Opera" and as Gaylord Ravenal in "Show Boat․"
• Went on a national tour with the musical "Guys & Dolls" in the 1950s and later toured with "Man of La Mancha" in the 1970s
• Is often remembered for the song "Donkey Serenade," which he sings in the film "The Firefly" in 1937
