TNT Plans Tuesday Night Mystery Block; TBS Slates Brian Austin Green Comedy

TNT's programming slate includes a drama starring Eric McCormack, projects from John Wells and Mitch Albom and a TNT Tuesday Night Mystery, while TBS hopes to build on its "Very Funny" motto with The Wedding Band.

The cable networks announced their plans Wednesday, when TNT also said it has green-lit 10 episodes of Major Crimes, which stars Mary McDonnell as Capt. Raydor, a character she's played on The Closer. The series will be executive-produced by Closer creator James Duff and takes over after The Closer airs its final season.

McCormack, the former Will & Grace star, plays a neuroscientist who works to solve complex criminal cases in Perception. It's ordered for next year.

Set in the Pacific Northwest, an untitled show from John Wells Productions (Southland, Shameless, The West Wing) follows a family of cops who uncover the mystical and often crime-ridden world of a small town.

The Albom project, set in a Detroit radio station, will follow a station manager who unwillingly returns to his native city to try to breathe life into it.

Among the other shows is a Jay Cocks project, based on the character from the Laura Lippman series of books. It focuses on Tess Monaghan, a former newspaper reporter who has become a private eye in Baltimore.

The TNT Tuesday Night Mystery, scheduled forNovember and December this year, will feature six contemporary crime dramas, including movies based on the best-selling books Innocent (Scott Turow), Silent Witness (Richard North Patterson), Ricochet (Sandra Brown) and Deck the Halls (Mary Higgins Clark, Carol Higgins Clark).

Also announced were five unscripted shows, including The Great Escape, whichputs teams of people in the middle of their own epic action/adventure movie. Players must work together to evade pursuers, overcome obstacles, solve puzzles and be the first to reach freedom to win a cash prize. Another is Shooters. Itwill feature 10 up-and-coming stars of the commercial-directing world competing for bragging rights as the top shooter, as well as seed money to start their own production house.

On TBS, The Wedding Band, scheduled to premiere in summer 2012, follows four friends who spend their spare time performing in a band. It will star Brian Austin Green, Harold Perrineau, Peter Cambor, Derek Miller and Melora Hardin.

Conan O'Brien intends to take his late-night show on the road for a weeklong broadcast in New York to mark Conan's one-year anniversary on the network. And his sidekick, Andy Richter, will host Pyramid, an update on the game show that began as The $10,000 Pyramid.

In 2011-12, TNT is bringing back seven series: Rizzoli & Isles; The Closer; recent Peabody Award winner Men of a Certain Age;Leverage; HawthoRNe; Memphis Beat; and Southland.
