The Closer Episode Recap: "Walking Back the Cat" | TV Show Recaps | 6/30/2009
This week on TNT's The Closer, Fritz "distracted" Brenda from thoughts of Kitty by luring her into helping out on an FBI case. Provenza, meanwhile, had a big surprise for the squad room. On with the recap!
As Brenda cooks up a storm (things are slow at the MCD), Fritz comes home... with Kitty's ashes. "I see dead bodies all the time," Brenda says as she moves past Fritz to get a look. But upon doing so, she is crushed: "Ohhhh! These are not ashes, they're chunks!" And they're labeled "Kitty Howard" at that. Brenda wants to spread the ashes somewhere important to Kitty. "Where?" Fritz asks. "She was never allowed to go outside."
Fritz asks Brenda for a "favor" — even though it might run afoul of their pledge to separate work and home. Seems the FBI is looking for a guy named Austin Blair. Brenda agrees ... read more 16 Comments

The Closer Creator James Duff: "Walking Back the Cat" | Celebrity Blogs | 6/29/2009
Within the intelligence community, the phrase "walking back the cat," loosely translated, means trying to figure out how an agent or an operation went south. Analyzing a professional disaster can be every bit as complicated as... well, convincing a cat to go in reverse. So when Special Agent Fritz Howard decides to ask his wife to help him locate a missing person, he leaves out details that might make his seemingly simple request sound overly complex or irritating. Yes, Fritz actually manipulates Brenda by purposely underplaying what he needs her to do. Can you believe it?
Well, turnabout is fair play.
And for those anxious to discover how marriage has changed our happy couple, here comes Fritz Howard, unabashedly pursuing his own agenda, demanding that Brenda follow him on trust alone. Can she do it?
Lt. Provenza also has something to report: the answer to his new wardrobe and curious mood swings.
And, finally, what are we to do with Kitty's ashes?
I know many of you were upset that Brenda lost her cat ... read more 13 Comments

Color me shocked that Katherine Heigl isn't leaving Grey's Anatomy. Is it possible we're being duped in some way? — Krista
MATT: I must say that the lack of fanfare surrounding ABC's confirmation of Heigl's status — especially when juxtaposed with the flurry of official statements regarding T.R. Knight's departure — made me raise one of my overgrown eyebrows. "Sure, she's staying... for just one more episode," I cynically hypothesized. But one of my best sources insists that this is not a case of clever semantics, and that Heigl's Izzie will have a significant presence in the fall.
Please give me some scoop on what's next for Desperate Housewives' Bree. — Fernando R.
MICKEY: Bree may come off like a brittle maneater, but at heart she's a real softy, which is why juggling an angry Orson and a horny Karl will really ... read more 30 Comments

The Closer Episode Recap: "Red Tape" | TV Show Recaps | 6/23/2009
This week on TNT's The Closer, as Gabriel came under fire after a questionable shooting, Brenda went toe-to-toe with an internal affairs toughie. Also: Kitty's fate was revealed. On with the recap!
Gabriel meets with Taylor at a bar. Seems that the commander was asked to play messenger and get a letter to the MIA Daniels. Irene, however, would have none of it, and sent the missive back untouched. "There are some things an apology just can't change," Taylor tries to explain. "She's moved on, and so should you." Hmm.
Gabriel starts to open up about how he has felt removed from the MCD gang ever since he bucked for the promotion Daniels got when BANG! Shots outside. Gabriel rushes out, gun waving. There's a body on the ground. In the dark, he sees someone fleeing. Gabriel fires multiple times ... read more 33 Comments

The Closer Creator James Duff: "Red Tape" | Celebrity Blogs | 6/22/2009
"Who will watch the watchers?"
This is an old question that keeps popping up whenever we talk about law enforcement agencies or any organization where the abuse of power under the color of authority continues to be a serious problem. Internal Affairs Departments are notoriously unpopular with the police they monitor. And the Force Investigation Division of the LAPD is no exception.
In this week's episode, "Red Tape," Sgt. Gabriel fires his weapon at a fleeing murderer, in self-defense. A boy is shot. But no gun is found. Enter Mary McDonnell as ... read more 4 Comments
