Hobo Sam Smith is convinced by an escaped mental patient to swap clothes. The tramp soon finds himself in a private asylum for the wealthy, where he meets Bill Carroll, who had a similar experience with his insane twin brother, Henry. While Bill languishes in the asylum, Henry plans to marry his brother's fiance, Beatrix Staynes. For the sake of his new friend, Sam escapes and makes his way to the Staynes home, where he learns that the wedding is to take place aboard a dirigible. Sam narrowly succeeds in boarding the airship, then takes over the controls, resulting in a series of terrifying dives and ascents. He crashes the dirigible in the asylum courtyard, bringing Henry back to his senses and freeing Beatrix to marry Bill.
