Paddy's Fate! A Secret Comes Out! 6 Teases for Rizzoli & Isles Season 3 Premiere

"You guys will make up."That's what Korsak (Bruce McGill) tells Jane (Angie Harmon) on the Season 3 premiere of Rizzoli & Isles (Tuesday, 9/8c, TNT) about her fractured friendship with Maura (Sasha Alexander). He may be right, but it looks to be a long road back for the former BFFs. Maura still feels betrayed that Jane shot her estranged father, crime boss Paddy Doyle (John Doman), in the Season 2 finale after having promised that she wasn't going to do anything. That surely can't be something that is forgiven in one episode, right? So how close are Jane and Maura to letting bygones be bygones? And is Paddy dead? Here are six things to expect on the season premiere.

So how close are Jane and Maura to letting bygones be bygones? And is Paddy dead? Here are six things to expect on the season premiere.

Summer TV: Get the scoop on Rizzoli & Isles and more of your favorite returning shows
1. Does Paddy live or die?

Picking up directly from where the finale left off, the premiere opens with Paddy being taken to the hospital, where Maura, as his next of kin, is faced with whether or not to sign a DNR form. An ominous sign or just a precaution? Let's put it this way: Do you think the old guy will go down that easily?
2. In and out of work
The promo already reveals that Maura resigns as chief medical examiner — paving the way for Dr. Pike (Ed Begley Jr.) to bring his prickly ways back to the morgue — but Jane will also have a new gig. After she gets into a fight with Maura, Jane is transferred from homicide to a desk job. Don't worry — it's only temporary.
3. Secret's out
Jane's relationship with Agent Dean (Billy Burke) is exposed when the Internal Affairs Department starts investigating her involvement with Paddy. But the IAD didn't dig up this intel on her love life by itself — someone let the cat out of the bag.
4. Mother knows best
Speaking of secrets, we know that Constance (Jacqueline Bisset) adopted Maura as a baby, but this wasn't a simple closed or open adoption with Maura's biological mother Hope, whose name Paddy mumbled to Maura after he was shot. (Sharon Lawrence will appear in two episodes as Hope.) How could it be that simple when the father is No. 1 on the FBI's most wanted list? Constance drops a big bomb about how and why Maura actually ended up in her care and exactly who was in the know about it.

5. Will Jane and Maura be BFFs again? Not quite. They will reconcile eventually — and Maura definitely wants to at one point in the premiere — but things will still be tense between them by episode's end. The good news is that they are on speaking terms. But if you want to see them in better times, get ready for not one but two flashbacks: one of how they first met (when Jane was undercover as a hooker) and the second of the moments before the shooting when Jane prepped Maura to go undercover.6. What's in a name?At long last, we will finally learn Jane's middle name! (What, you haven't been wondering what it is?) The moniker is a food, but it's not completely out there... at least we don't think it is. Rizzoli & Isles premieres Tuesday at 9/8c on TNT.
