Joan Rivers’ Daughter Melissa Releases New Statement, Celebs Tweet Support

Joan Rivers' family members are trying to remain optimistic that the legendary comedienne will recover. Rivers, 81, is currently in a medically-induced coma at a New York City hospital, where she was rushed Thursday after she stopped breathing during surgery on her vocal chords.

"We are keeping our fingers crossed," Rivers' daughter Melissa said in a statement Sunday, according to The Associated Press.

While Rivers' family members have been keeping a vigil over the Fashion Policecommentator, her professional colleagues and celebrity friends have also been tweeting their support.

"Praying for @Joan_Rivers and @MelRivers. Even though Joan's the strongest woman I know, every single prayer counts. I love you, Joan," Rivers' Fashion Police co-host Giuliana Rancic tweeted Saturday.

Added their Fashion Police co-host Kelly Osbourne: "4 the first time in years I got down on my knees & prayed tonight! I encourage U 2 do the same 4 @Joan_Rivers my grandma! #inconsolable."

And comedienne Sarah Silverman, who is scheduled to perform with Rivers next month, also offered her support. "We have a gig in 2 weeks and I'm not doing it without you YOU'RE BEING RIDICULOUS @Joan_Rivers," she tweeted Sunday.

On Friday, Melissa Rivers issued a statement through her mother's website thanking their friends and fans for the kind words. "My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world," she wrote. "Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery."

Melissa Rivers will decide in the next few days whether to remove her mother from life support, according to reports.
