TNT has picked up Michael Bay's drama The Last Ship to series, the network announced Tuesday.

The Last Ship, which will premiere in 2014, follows a global pandemic that kills much of the world's population. The crew aboard a Navy destroyer, the U.S.S. Nathan James, escapes the viral pandemic, but the team struggles to adjust to their dark new reality. 10 episodes of the series have been ordered.

Shows we don't want to see go away

Grey's Anatomy alum Eric Dane stars as Navy Capt. Tom Chandler, a family man with "authoritative and decisive, but also fair and courageous" traits. Boston Legal's Rhona Mitra portrays Rachel Scott, a paleo-microbiologist that investigates the science of the global killing epidemic. Chuck's Adam Baldwin takes on the role of the ship's No. 2 man, Slattery, who also has strong emotional ties to his family. Tracy Middendorf rounds out the cast as Chandler's wife, Darien. This marks Dane's first TV gig since his character, Dr. Mark Sloan aka McSteamy, was killed off of Grey's earlier this season.

Hank Steinberg (Without a Trace) will serve as showrunner on The Last Ship, which is also produced by Steven Kane (The Closer). Bay is the well-known mega-producer behind Transformers, Armageddon, and most recently, April's Pain & Gain.
