Following the very public dissolution of their marriage, Maria Shriver made it official Friday, filing for divorce from her husband of 25 years, Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Associated Press reports.
Shriver cited irreconcilable differences as cause for the split, asking for spousal support and joint custody of their two minor children, Patrick, 17, and Christopher, 13. She also requested that a judge deny Schwarzenegger the right to ask for support himself, according to TMZ.com, who also reports that the couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement of any sort.
Arnold Schwarzenegger admits to fathering child with household employee
Schwarzenegger, 63, and Shriver, 55, announced their separation in May after the former California governor admitted he fathered a child with a former member of their household staff. Roughly a week later, Shriver hired a top divorce attorney whose previous clients include Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie and Christina Aguilera.
The couple, who wed in 1986, have four children together, including daughters Katherine, 21, and Christina, 19.
