Lady Gaga narrowly avoided joining the ranks of young pop stars who have shared high-profile smooches with Madonna when the music icon made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live.
Madonna performed with Lady Gaga on the fictional MTV 4 music show, Deep House Dish, hosted by D.J. Dynasty Handbag (Kenan Thompson).
Gaga and Madonna jokingly fought on stage, with Madge demanding at one point, "What the hell is a disco stick?"

MTV often goes out of its way to have at least one wow-factor moment during the Video Music Award shows, and this year's VMAs (Sunday at 9/8c) will likely be one for the books as the King of Pop will be front and center, according to returning host Russell Brand.
