Psych to Let Fans Vote on Ending for 100th Episode

Psych is going all out for its 100th episode. For the first time ever, the USA detective comedy will let fans vote on the ending to the show's landmark hour, USA announced Wednesday.

Titled "100 Clues," the 100th episode (March 27 at 10/9c on USA) will pay homage to the 1985 cult classic film Clue (which was based on the whodunit board game) when Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dulé Hill) are invited to a mysterious party at a mansion by a rock legend whom Shawn and the local police sent to prison five years earlier for murder. When a new crime is committed, five suspects emerge: the Butler, the Groupie, the Manager, the Author and the Host.

Fans on both coasts will be able to work with Shawn & Co. to nab the culprit by voting for one of the five suspects online at Psych's official website. Additional votes can be logged by tweeting specially designed hashtags for each suspect:  #PsychButlerDDit, #PsychGroupieDDit, #PsychManagerDDit, #PsychAuthorDDit and #PsychHostDDit. On-air graphics will keep track of the results, and — because there may be different selected endings for the East and West Coast — viewers will be able to watch two of three alternate endings online and on-demand the following day. The third ending will be featured on the Psych Season 7 DVD.

"This is a great example of how USA can eventize a broadcast and take fan engagement to new heights — before, during and after the show," Alexandra Shapiro, USA's executive vice president, marketing & digital, said in a statement. "In collaboration with Dunkin' Donuts, we have co-created a Social TV campaign that interfaces with the audience at every consumer touch point, from TV to social channels to mobile."

Psych's big episode will also feature guest appearances from Clue stars Christopher Lloyd, Lesley Ann Warren and Martin Mull, as well as Garrett Morris and Tears For Fears' Curt Smith.
