Hopefully, Sam's mom is a little more stable than Woodard's last turn as a matriarch. The Desperate Housewives alum recently portrayed Lafayette's mom Ruby Jean on True Blood. She will also star in the upcoming Lifetime remake of Steel Magnolias alongside Queen Latifah and Phylicia Rashad.Private Practice premieres Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 10/9c on ABC.
