Matt's Weekend Picks: October 22-24

Medium (Friday, 8/7c, CBS)
One of the funniest bits on 30 Rock's recent live episode was Jon Hamm's cameo as a guy whose hand transplant goes awry (a classic horror-movie staple). This week, it's Allison's turn to play it a bit more straight, as she gets a skin graft on her hand and it begins acting up as if the other hand doesn't know what it's doing. The episode is titled "Talk to the Hand." Good to know moving to Fridays and a different network didn't rob the series of its sense of humor.
Supernatural (Friday, 9/8c, The CW)
Speaking of humor mixed with horror, look for the Winchester brothers to get their Twilight snark on as they track a gaggle of vampires who's been abducting young girls in a small town. Things get messy when resident cynic Dean gets bit and goes all True Blood, prompting grandpa Samuel to send Dean after the vampire that turned him. Dean, meet Alpha Vamp.
Sherlock (Sunday, PBS, 9/8c, check local schedules)
One of the fall's more delightful surprises is this new Masterpiece Mystery! import, a modern-day adaptation of the Arthur Conan Doyle classic. In three 90-minute movies exec produced by Steven Moffat (Doctor Who, Jekyll), we meet a contemporary and mercurial Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) who maintains a "Science of Deduction" website, and a droll Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman of the original The Office) who chronicles their baroque crime-solving exploits in a blog. They're great company.
Luther (Sunday, 10/9c, BBC America)
This riveting crime drama's second episode gives you a better sense of the series' methods. The lethal mind games continue between Detective Luther (Idris Elba) and the seductive psychopath Alice (Ruth Wilson), but Luther must also find time to tackle another shocking case, this time involving a mysterious soldier who's targeting anyone in a police uniform. The tension builds on all fronts in this excellent, but dark, diversion.
