Ben Foster is in final talks to play disgraced athlete Lance Armstrong in a new biopic, Deadline reports.

Foster, who recurred on Six Feet Under as Russell, is best known for his film roles in 3:10 to Yuma, The Messenger and X-Men: The Last Stand. He recently made his Broadway debut opposite Alec Baldwin in Orphans, replacing Shia LaBeouf.

The movie, from The Queen director Stephen Frears, follows Armstrong's career from his cancer battle to the scandal that ultimately brought him down. After years of denying that he used performance-enhancing substances, the seven-time Tour de France champ admitted to Oprah Winfrey in January that he had injected testosterone and took part in blood-doping. The interview came after he was stripped of all seven Tour de France titles, as well as his Olympic gold medal.

In April, Armstrong was sued by the U.S. Justice Department for the millions of dollars he and his company, Tailwind Sports, took from the U.S. Postal Service for his cycling team.
