Taxi and Numb3rs alum Judd Hirsch is plotting a possible return to the small screen.

The Oscar-nominated actor has joined ABC's supernatural pilot Forever, TVGuide.com has learned.

The complete pilot report: ABC has David Schwimmer, Jennifer Carpenter and Kevin Hart

Forever centers on Dr. Henry Morgan, a New York City medical examiner who studies the dead for a reason: He is immortal. Through his work with Detective Jo Martinez and his bond with best friend, Abe, the layers of Henry's long and colorful life are slowly revealed. Hirsch will play Henry's best and only friend, Abe, who is known for his insight and his honest sense of humor. Abe knows Henry's secret and encourages him to get out of the morgue and start really living his life.

Matt Miller (Chuck) is writing the pilot and will executive-produce with Dan Lin (Terminator Salvation) and Jennifer Gwartz (Veronica Mars).

Aside from his two long-running TV gigs, Hirsch is known for his roles in films such as Ordinary People, Independence Day and A Beautiful Mind. He most recently guest-starred on Perception, The Good Wife and Maron. He will also play a taxi driver in the upcoming Sharknado sequel on Syfy.
