David Letterman Receives Top Honor at Inaugural Comedy Awards

David Letterman received the top honor as the recipient of the "Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence" at the inaugural Comedy Awards. The event, which honored the industry's top writers, directors, actors and stand-up comedians, took place in New York last month and was simulcast on Comedy Central, Spike TV, TV Land, VH1 and Nick at Nite on Sunday. Alec Baldwin continued his award show streak with a win the Best Comedy Actor award in television for 30 Rock, while Kristen Wiig took home the Best Comedy Actress award for Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey received the Best Comedy Actress in film honor for Date Night with Zach Galifianakis getting the award for Best Comedy Actor in Dinner for Schmucks.

Comedy Central's own Daniel Tosh was chosen by fans for the Breakthrough Performer Award.
