After taking over the Super Bowl, Saturday Night Live's favorite inept spy, MacGruber, is ready to explode onto the silver screen — perhaps with a former Caped Crusader in tow.
Val Kilmer and Ryan Phillippe are in negotiations to star in the film, co-written by MacGruber himself, SNL star Will Forte, who will reprise his role, according to the Hollywood Reporter. SNL's Kristen Wiig will also join as his always imperiled assistant.

Every week, after laughing myself silly at the warped lunacy of 30 Rock on Thursday nights and then being greeted by the stubbornly low ratings on Friday morning, Im more than ever convinced that this inspired comedy is the new Arrested Development. (And not just because its a dark-horse Emmy winner, also taking home the best-comedy trophy after its first season.) Heres another cult classic that is apparently too off-kilter to be more than an acquired taste, unfortunately destined to fly under the radar. This view isnt coming from a comedy snob. I get a kick out of most of CBS more mainstream Monday comedies, including the new Big Bang Theory, which gets funnier and more confident by the week. On Thursdays Im still delighted by 30 Rocks time-period rival, the sweetly campy Ugly Betty. But 30 Rock strikes me as something special, something to treasure, firing on all burners with a wild and hilariously absurdist sensibility. This weeks epi...

Question: I have seen a few criticisms of Brian Williams' decision to host Saturday Night Live, people saying that as a newsman he would be denigrating his integrity, Edward R. He was really entertaining and showed comedic ability, and it's not like now I'll no longer find his news reports credible. Perhaps this would've been unthinkable in the days of Walter Cronkite or even Tom Brokaw. But even if this was just a gimmick for NBC Nightly News to reach out to a "hipper" audience, I can't help but be happy and relieved for Williams. It must have felt like Lorne Michaels approached him to try skydiving for the first time. And to know he survived it without serious ...

Calling Dr. Spaceman! Saturday Night Live vets Chris Parnell and Rachel Dratch have joined the cast of Harold, an indie comedy about a prematurely balding teen (played by Spencer Breslin). Parnell is the poor lad's gym coach, Dratch the teacher who exposes his dome to his peers.... Also per the Reporter, SNL's Kristen Wiig has booked a pair of big-screen gigs: as Ricky Gervais' oral surgeon in Ghost Town, and as the female lead opposite Paul Giamatti and Billy Crudup in the indie laffer Pretty Bird.
