Among the projects getting a green light are sci-fi series The After, written and directed by The X-Files creator Chris Carter, cop drama Bosch, dramedy Mozart in the Jungleand dark comedy Transparent. Like last year, Amazon determined which shows would be picked up by reviewing viewer feedback on the pilots it released online for free. The After, Carter's first TV series since The X-Files went off the air in 2002, follows eight strangers who are brought together by mysterious forces and must help each other survive in a violent world that defies explanation. The cast includes Sharon Lawrence, Jamie Kennedy and Adrian Pasdar.
Based on Michael Connelly's best-selling series, Bosch features a LAPD homicide detective, Harry Bosch, who's investigating the murder of a 13-year-old boy, while also on trial for allegedly murdering a suspected serial killer. Titus Welliver stars as the title character. Connelly and Treme's Eric Overmyer wrote the pilot, which Jim McKay (Miracle) directed.
TV characters that need to die
Based on the memoir by Blair Tindall, Mozart is a dramedy written by Roman Coppola (Moonrise Kingdom) and Jason Schwartzman, along with Alex Timbers. The project explores the sex and drugs that happen behind the scenes of a symphony and stars Gael Garcia Bernal, Saffron Burrows, Malcolm McDowell and Bernadette Peters.
Transparent, from writer/director Jill Soloway (Six Feet Under), features a Los Angeles family with serious boundary issues whose members are forced to divulge their secrets after a dramatic admission. It stars Jeffrey Tambor, Judith Light and Gaby Hoffman.
