Jolie, who was given the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, thanked her late mother in her acceptance speech. "I will do as my mother asked and I will do the best I can with this life to be of use. And to stand here today means I did as she asked," Jolie said. "And if she were alive, she'd be very proud."

Lansbury, who's been nominated for an Oscar three times, credited her acting career with saving her after the death of her husband.

Costume designer and five-time Oscar nominee Piero Tosi was also honored, but he did not attend the ceremony. Actress Claudia Cardinale, with whom he worked on The Leopard, accepted the award on his behalf.
