Eric McCormack may get a chance to show us the funny again, with a starring role in an untitled ABC comedy pilot from Tad Quill (Scrubs). McCormack would play a heart surgeon and new dad, while Reno Wilson (Blind Justice) is his best bud, a contractor.

Cast as their wives are Jolie Jenkins (Shasta McNasty) and Constance Zimmer (Entourage), respectively.

Theoretically, this new comedy is a "second position" situation for McCormack, meaning TNT's tepidly received Trust Me would get top priority — if it gets picked up for a sophomore run.

In other ABC pilot news courtesy of the Hollywood Reporter, Freddie Prinze Jr. is up for No Heroics, playing Bradley, aka Ultimatum, the supervillain arch nemesis of Pete/Chillout (Battlestar Galactica's Paul Campbell).

Also, Lindsay Sloane (Grosse Pointe) and Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are two of the three thirtysomething ladies at the center of Pulling, and Holly Robinson Peete (For Your Love) is on board for Lauren Graham's The Bridget Show.
