Smallville(Friday, 8/7c, The CW)
Before she was a desperate housewife, Teri Hatcher was a memorably dithery Lois on the mid-'90s hit Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Now she's coming full circle in a guest cameo as the new Lois Lane's dearly departed mother Ella, seen in a video she left behind for her daughter. What Lois sees causes her to make a decision about Clark that sends her to the Fortress for a face-to-face with the potential in-laws, Jor-El and Lara. All one big happy superhero family? I'm guessing not.
Industrial Light & Magic: Creating the Impossible(Friday, 9/8c, Encore)
Special-effects powerhouse ILM marks its 35th anniversary with an hour-long documentary featuring many clips from the groundbreaking movies that has instilled a sense of wonder in audiences for several generations. Among those interviewed: George Lucas, who founded the company to create visual effects for Star Wars, plus visionaries from Steven Spielberg to J.J. Abrams and Pixar's John Lasseter. The special is repeated several times over the weekend, and Sunday's airing (9/8c) is accompanied by screenings of ILM-enhanced movies including Starship Troopers, Twister and Jurassic Park III.
Tina Fey: The Mark Twain Prize(Sunday, 9/8c, PBS)
Taped earlier this week, this ceremony bestowing the accolade for comedy achievement goes to the Saturday Night Live/30 Rock performer/writer. As you'd expect, many SNL and 30 Rock players (including recurring guest star Jon Hamm) are there to honor her, along with SNL creator Lorne Michaels, frequent guest host Steve Martin, her Date Night co-star Steve Carell — and, naturally, Betty White, because what program in 2010 would be complete without her?
Brothers & Sisters(Sunday, 10/9c, ABC)
Guest-star and gene pool alert! Luc's mother has come to town, and it's clear the hunky apple did not fall from the gorgeous tree, as mama Gabriela is played by Brazilian spitfire Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman), who stirs things up instantly for the Walkers. Nora gets agitated when Gabriela begins meddling in her budding relationship with Dr. Karl, and did we actually see Justin kissing her in the previews? That's not likely to go over well.
