Lindsay Lohan's highly anticipated turn as Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime's Liz & Dickfailed to make much of a splash with viewers in its premiere Sunday night.

The TV movie, also starring Grant Bowler as Richard Burton, averaged 3.5 million viewers and 1.3 million adults in the ages 18-49 demographic. That number was well behind the 6.5 million viewers that tuned into Lifetime's Steel Magnolias remake earlier this fall as well as the 5.8 million for Drew Peterson: Untouchable back in January.

The ratings are disappointing considering the amount of publicity surrounding the film's premiere, including rare television appearances by Lohan on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

However, Liz & Dick did out-perform Lohan's last TV movie, Labor Pains, which premiered to 2.1 million viewers on ABC Family in July 2009.
