"Let's just all acknowledge for a moment that this is weird," Oliver said, as he began his three-month tenure. The nervous comedian then admitted that Stewart had tried to ease his anxieties by explaining that "no big new stories ever break out over the summer," only to have the NSA controversy break immediately after Stewart signed off last week.
Oliver addressed the scandal in a hilarious new segment titled "Good News! You're Not Paranoid." Oliver pleaded, only to learn that his poor hosting skills have already gone viral. "Buzzfeed just posted The 27 Worst Moments of John Oliver's First Six Minutes," special correspondent Aasif Mandvi informed Oliver.
