Young & the Restless Actress Jeanne Cooper Dies at 84

Two-time Daytime Emmy winner Jeanne Cooper, who starred as The Young & the Restless' Katherine Chancellor for more than 40 yearshas died. She was 84.
Cooper's son, Corbin Bernsen, made the announcement on Twitter. He first updated fans of his mother's hospitalization and worsening health with a series of moving Facebook posts last month.

"Mom passed this morning," he tweeted on Wednesday. "She was in peace and without fear. U all have been incredible in your love. In her name share it 2 day with others."

Cooper began her career with a role in the 1953 western film The Redhead in Wyoming. She went on to star in an early episode of NBC's Tales of Wells Fargo followed by several guest appearances on CBS' Perry Mason, Hawaii Five-O, Mannix and Ironside. She was also nominated for an Emmy in 1962 for her performance in Ben Casey.

In 1973, Cooper began playing "Dame of Genoa City" Katherine Chancellor, a role she held throughout the last four decades. Her character went through four marriages, battled alcoholism and even had a facelift after Cooper asked writers to incorporate her real-life cosmetic surgery into the show. She earned two Daytime Emmys and 10 Daytime Emmy nominations during her career.

Cooper was married TV producer Harry Bernsen, Jr. for 23 years before divorcing. They had three children: Corbin, Collin Bernsen and Caren Bernsen, all of whom are actors.
