Hawaii Five-0: Answers to 5 Burning Questions About Season 6

Island life is about to get pretty interesting on Hawaii Five-0 this season. On the heels of Kono (Grace Park) and Adam (Ian Anthony Dale) taking their relationship to the next level at the end of Season 5 (or ... did they?), the rest of the Five-0 crew will be enmeshed in their own personal and romantic entanglements in Season 6.

And, as if that weren't enough, the season kicks off with a "huge action-adventure tale" in which the team's investigation leads them to an ancient legend, according to showrunner Peter Lenkov. "It's a modern-day pirate treasure hunt with flashbacks to help tell the origin of it all," Lenkov says.

TVGuide.com chatted with Lenkov to get scoop on what's ahead in the upcoming episodes, as well as answers to five burning questions we were left with after last season's finale.

Fall TV Preview: Get scoop on Hawaii Five-0 and other returning shows

1. Did Kono and Adam actually get married at the end of last season? Where does the Season 6 premiere pick up?

Kono and Adam really did take the plunge, Lenkov assures. "The premiere picks up maybe an hour or two after last year's finale," he tells us. "We'll see [Adam and Kono] be introduced as husband and wife. We'll also see our entire Ohana on the dance floor grooving to 'We are Family.' At least, that's the plan."

2. How long will Catherine (Michelle Borth) be sticking around, and what will her and McGarrett's (Alex O'Loughlin) relationship be going forward?

Only time will tell, but viewers won't have to wait too long for answers. "This is a very tricky question," Lenkov demurs. "The first few episodes include a McGarrett/Catherine arc that will answer this. In fact, I can promise you that by Episode 3, there will be a surprise turn in their relationship."

3. Will we see a lot of father/son time with Danny (Scott Caan) and Charlie? How will fatherhood change Danny?

We will get to know Charlie more this season, and so will Danny, Lenkov promises. "Like any father, [Danny] will certainly reconsider his priorities. He will also have to find a way to make peace with Rachel for the sake of Charlie," Lenkov teases. "But, first things first - Charlie has to get well."

4. How big of a role will Chin Ho's (Daniel Dae Kim) brother-in-law Gabriel (Christopher Sean) play this season?

It's looking more and more like Gabriel is being positioned as the new Wo Fat. He'll play a "huge" role this season, according to Lenkov, but how dangerous that will be remains to be seen.

5. What guest stars can we look forward to in Season 6?

"There will be a lot of familiar faces returning - some to tie up loose ends, others because they're just so damn good," Lenkov says. Those will include Mykelti Williamson in the middle of the season, to wrap up the storyline about Grover's (Chi McBride) former partner, as well as Carol Burnett as McGarrett's Aunt Deb. "And then there's a lot of new faces we hope will become fan favorites," adds Lenkov, "one being a potential love interest for a motorcycle-riding member of Five-0." Judging by the Instagram post below, that will be Defiance star Julie Benz.

Hawaii Five-0 returns Friday at 9/8c on CBS.
