Gravity Out-Weighs the Weekend Box Office, Fifth Estate Flops

Gravity out-weighed the box office for the third week in a row, raking in another $31 million, according to Box Office Mojo. In the No. 2 spot was Captain Phillips with $17.3. The Tom Hanks film, which is based on a true story, has grossed a total of $53.3 million in two weeks.

Gravity out-weighed the box office for the third week in a row, raking in another $31 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

In the No. 2 spot was Captain Phillips with $17.3. The Tom Hanks film, which is based on a true story, has grossed a total of $53.3 million in two weeks.

Horror remake Carrie took the third spot with an even $17 million in its opening weekend. It was followed by Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2,which took in $10.1 million in its fourth weekend of release.

Coming in at No. 5 was Escape Plan with $9.8 million. Prisoners andEnough Said followed with $2.1 million and $1.8 million, respectively.

The Fifth Estate, based on WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange (Benedict Cumberbatch) came in at a disappointing ninth spot. The flick, which grossed just $1.7 million, was the worst debut for a film opening in at least 1,500 theatres this year.

Runner Runner came in at No. 9 with $1.6 million followed by Insidious Chapter 2 with $1.5 million.
