4 Things to Know for Burn Notice's Final Season

"Michael, what have you done?"

That's what Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) asked her longtime beau at the end of Burn Notice's Season 6 finale, when Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) made a mysterious deal with the CIA after he shot his former training officer (Tom Card) and tried to blackmail another (Olivia Riley). So exactly what kind of deal did Michael make? Where does he stand with Fiona? Here are four things to know for the final season of Burn Notice, premiering on Thursday at 9/8c on USA.

1. And then there was one. The new season picks up nine months later and thousands of miles away. As part of his deal with the CIA, Michael is now working undercover in the Dominican Republic, fighting by day, drinking by night (and day, sometimes) in order to get close to a long-standing suspect Randall Burke (Adrian Pasdar). Fans will see a new, more desperate and isolated side of Michael Westen this season because, as Michael himself says in the episode, "a deep cover job changes you in ways that are hard to describe."

2. Moving on up. While Michael is still paying the price for what went down last season, his now-former crew has all moved on. Jesse (Coby Bell) is working a fancy corporate security gig. Fiona is still a trigger-happy girlfriend — just now someone else's trigger-happy girlfriend. And Sam (Bruce Campbell) is enjoying mojitos poolside and becoming the most attentive (read: overbearing) boyfriend ever. Because of the nature of Michael's deep undercover mission, no one has heard from Michael since he made that deal, but don't expect that to stay true for very long.

3. A ghost of seasons past. It's been almost a year since Burn Notice upped the ante and killed Michael's brother Nate in cold blood during a mission. However, the aftermath of Nate's death is still a major factor in the final season, not only because it put Michael back into the CIA's clutches, but also because his mom, Madeline (Sharon Gless), is now raising Nate's young son on her own after his mother's grief sent her to rehab. After losing both of her sons in one sense or another, Madeline will do anything to keep her grandson close — which will prove to be both a good and a bad thing with time.

4. Meet the new guy. After Michael was so badly burned last season by his deceitful former training officer and mentor Tom Card (John C. McGinley), fans will be wary of Michael's new handler, Andrew Strong (Jack Coleman). But Strong is a far cry from Card. While Card played heavily on his personal relationship with Michael to motivate him, Strong isn't afraid to tell it like it is. "You give new meaning to the word 'despised,' he tells Michael in the season opener. But it's Strong's abrasive and no-frills nature that also makes him intriguing.
