Bobbi Kristina Brown Died of Drug Intoxication and Drowning, Medical Examiner Says

Bobbi Kristina Brown died of drug intoxication and immersion in water, according to the Fulton County, Georgia medical examiner.

"The drugs involved included marijuana, alcohol (ethanol), benzoylecgonine (a cocaine-related substance), benzodiazepines (medications used for sedation or to treat anxiety), and morphine," the medical examiner said. "It could not be determined from toxicology tests whether the morphine resulted from heroin use."

Brown, the daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, was found unconscious in a bathtub at her Georgia home on Jan. 31, 2015. She died six months later at a hospice facility after her medications were discontinued. She was only 22 years old.

Brown's autopsy results were previously sealed, but they were released on Friday after a judge granted a request from a local media outlet to unseal them.

According to the medical examiner's report, it cannot be determined whether Brown's death was intentional or unintentional. However, Brown's family has filed a $40 million wrongful death lawsuit against Brown's boyfriend Nick Gordon, claiming he injected her with "a toxic mixture" and placed her in the bathtub unconscious. Gordon had previously been named a person of interest by the police, but no charges were ever filed.
