Director Tim Burton is in talks to conjure up a sequel to 1988's hit fantasy comedy Beetlejuice, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Burton, who helmed the first film, has an offer to direct the second movie, but sources tell the trade that Burton has not yet read the new draft of the script, which is being written by Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg.

In the 1988 film, Michael Keaton plays the wacky titular character from the underworld who is summoned when his name is invoked three times. The actor will reportedly reprise his role in the sequel. The horror comedy also starred Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as a recently deceased couple who haunt their former home. With the help of Beetlejuice, they attempt to scare away their home's new inhabitants, including Winona Ryder's angst-ridden goth teen Lydia Deetz
