Weeds to Make Basic Cable Debut on TV Guide Network

Weeds will be broadcast on basic cable exclusively on TV Guide Networkstartingin September, the network announced Wednesday.

The comedy series starring Mary-Louise Parker — who's won a Golden Globe for her performance as a suburban mom who deals pot to make ends meet after her husband's death — becomes the third major scripted series the network has acquired in the last nine months.

As TV Guide Network rebrands itself as an entertainment programming destination, it will debut new high-profile premium series beginning this summer. In June, the network will premiere Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm; come fall, it will launch a revamped prime-time schedule including Ugly Betty.

The critically acclaimed program — which has garnered 10 Golden Globe and 19 Emmy nominations — is heading into its sixth season on Showtime this summer.

The show has followed the evolution of single mom Nancy Botwin (Parker) from a small-time suburban pot dealer struggling to support her family to a seasoned player in the drug trade.  The series also stars Elizabeth Perkins, Kevin Nealon, Justin Kirk, Hunter Parrish, Alexander Gould, Allie Grant and Andy Milder.

Weeds' Jenji Kohan inks new deal with Lionsgate

Produced by Lionsgate Television in association with Tilted Productions, "Weeds" is executive-produced and was created by Emmy winner Jenji Kohan.

 

TV Guide Network has acquired rights to air all episodes from the series' first five seasons as well as the show's future episodes.
