The Good Doctor ended its first season with Dr. Glassman (Richard Schiff) finding out there is a chance for him to beat his brain tumor, but his and Shaun's (Freddie Highmore) jobs at the hospital are in very serious jeopardy.

The feel-good medical drama was an immediate hit for ABC last fall and easily scored a sophomore season to allow viewers to get to know the autistic and brilliant Dr. Shaun Murphy even better. Over the course of the first 18 episodes, fans not only got to see how Shaun became a surgical resident, but how the team at the hospital became a sort of family, if still a dysfunctional one.

The Good Doctor is expected to return this fall, but to help you get through the summer hiatus here is everything we know about Season 2.

The Good Doctor: Shaun and Dr. Glassman Find Hope, But Are They Safe?

Who is leaving and who is returning?: Some friends are leaving and others are coming back when The Good Doctor returns. Jared (Chuku Modu) will not be around when the show resumes, but Morgan (Fiona Gubelmann) and Alex (Will Yun Lee) will be sticking around as both Gubelmann and Lee were promoted to series regulars.

Lea (Paige Spara) will also be returning in the sophomore season, and sticking around for a while. She left in the middle of Season 1 to run her family's auto-shop in Hershey, Penn., leaving her kindling romantic relationship with Shaun on hold. Exploring more of Lea and Shaun's chemistry is high on the Season 2 wish list for Highmore. The actor told TV Guide he'd "love to see a bit more of that storyline," during the show's 2018 Paley Fest red carpet.

Will Daniel Dae Kim finally cameo?: Daniel Dae Kim, who is best known for his roles in Hawaii Five-0 and Lost, stayed strictly behind the camera as an executive producer for the first season of the show but Highmore would love to see him actually make an appearance in the hospital. It could happen because Kim already has an idea of who he could play.

"Maybe as an extra some time," Kim suggested, "just whizzing a patient by."

The Good Doctor Renewed for Season 2!

Will there be more of a connection to the original show?: Kim brought The Good Doctor to executive producer David Shore and ABC as an adaptation of a Korean drama. While the pilots of both series were pretty similar, the American version has since greatly deviated from the original source material. However, Kim would like to include a little more from the original Korean run in Season 2.

"There is something that I have in mind as an homage to the original series," he said. "David [Shore] and I have been talking about it now so we'll see if it makes its way in the show."

Will we go to the Super Bowl?: Glassman is going to live. He and Shaun are friends again. They love each other! Doesn't that deserve a celebration at the biggest football game of the year? At the very least, Richard Schiff is very into the idea.

"If we actually go to the Super Bowl with a camera crew, I'd be good with that," he told us. "That's a good thing to root for."

Who will be Glassman's doctor?: House alum Lisa Edelstein has officially joined the cast of The Good Doctor for a recurring role as Dr. Blaise -- Glassman's oncologist who will be helping him through his first round of treatment. She's fresh off suspension and isn't afraid to let Glassman know that she's in charge, so expect this to be a fun dynamic to watch play out.
