Breath a sigh of relief,The Good Doctor fans! ABC just renewed the new hit series for a second season!

Recently, ABC has seemed to be thinning out its lineup with news of Once Upon a Time's cancellation and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s uncertain future, which is why it's such a relief to hear that Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) and the other devoted employees of San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital will be back for more medical drama next season.

"The Good Doctor's message of inclusiveness resonates with our viewers and is a hallmark of what we aim to accomplish here at ABC," said Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment. "This series has quickly joined the zeitgeist and broken records in the competitive television landscape. We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Shaun Murphy will be back for another season."

Zeitgeist isn't all The Good Doctor has going for it, though. In its first season, The Good Doctor has become ABC's most-watched freshmen series in 13 years and is producing the strongest improvement to any hour across the major networks' schedules this season. Fan love is great, but at the end of the day, the numbers made this renewal decision easy math.

The Good Doctor continues Mondays at 10/9c on ABC.
