Clive Owen has been tapped to star in Cinemax's new original series The Knick, which will be directed by Steven Soderbergh, the network announced Thursday.
Set in downtown New York in 1900, The Knick takes a look inside Knickerbocker Hospital and the staff who push the bounds of medicine in a time with high mortality rates and no antibiotics.

"We are thrilled that Steven and Clive have chosen to bring this unique and exciting series to Cinemax," HBO's President of Programming Michael Lombardo said in a statement.
Jack Amiel and Michael Begler will write and executive-produce alongside Soderburgh, Owen, Michael Sugar and Gregory Jacobs.
The 10-episode first season will begin production in New York in September.
