Hawaii Five-0 Sneak Peek: Meet Gavin Rossdale's "Double-Crossing Jerk-Off Criminal"

Hawaii becomes the Island of Johnny Moreau on Friday's 100th episode of Hawaii Five-0: Bush singer Gavin Rossdale guest-stars as a new villain.

The bulk of the milestone hour is devoted to a "Sliding Doors" plot — in which McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) is kidnapped by Wo Fat (Mark Dacascos) and experiences what his life would have been like if his father, John McGarrett (William Sadler), had never died. And it's a must-see episode for longtime fans, who will finally get a definitive answer as to the exact link between McGarrett and Wo Fat.

So what does Johnny Moreau have to do with all this? TVGuide.com chatted with Rossdale about his guest-starring role, which TV shows he's addicted to, and whether we'll be seeing any more of him on The Voice this season.

Ask Matt: Black-ish, The Middle, Anarchy Music, The Voice, The Knick, and More

Question: OMG! The Halloween episode of Black-ish was the funniest yet! Between all the pranks at home and his office (Josh getting hit was the best — twice!), the daughter deciding not to prank anymore, and the kids not going trick-or-treating because they didn't want to get diabetes, I couldn't decide what was funnier; well, maybe Josh getting hit twice in the nose was the best! However, I think the best thing of the whole episode was the ending when they came out dressed like the Jackson 5; brought back so many awesome childhood memories for me! This is the best sitcom of the 2014 season! I hope they renew it as I look forward to watching it every week! — Amy, Galloway, OH

Weekend TV: Simpsons' 25th Treehouse of Horror, Foo Fighters' Sonic Highways, Finales of Knick and Manhattan

Some milestones can't help but make a longtime TV viewer feel a bit long in the tooth. Such is the case this Sunday, as Fox's The Simpsons marks a full quarter-century of spooky satire with its 25th annual "Treehouse of Horror" Halloween trilogy (8/7c), which strikes a nostalgic chord from its opening fanfare, echoing the classic (and still-missed) theme from Johnny Carson's Tonight Show — with a macabre twist, naturally.

Surgical Instruments: The Knick's Cliff Martinez on Creating the Show's Musical Heartbeat

If you were initially thrown by the modern, electronic music used to score Steven Soderbergh's 1900-set medical drama The Knick, you are not alone: The idea also caught the show's composer, Cliff Martinez, off guard at first.

8 Reasons You Need to Watch Cinemax's The Knick

Do you ever sit in your doctor's waiting room, impatiently sighing and checking your watch? Cinemax's new drama might just give you an attitude adjustment.

Set in New York in 1900, The Knick takes a bloody, unflinching look at the birth of modern medicine. Created by Jack Amiel and Michael Begler and elevated by the slick direction of (not-so-retired) Steven Soderbergh, the medical drama stars Clive Owen as Dr. John Thackery, a brilliant surgeon at The Knickerbocker Hospital who spends his days shooting up liquid cocaine and his nights sleeping in an opium den. That's probably because, despite Thackery's gifts, most of his patients die on his operating table as he and his fellow doctors experiment with what today are basic surgical procedures. (And all without wearing gloves!)

Weekend Review: The Knick, Outlander

Cinemax, the scruffy bastard stepchild of HBO, is the perfect home for Steven Soderbergh's harrowing hospital melodrama The Knick (Friday, 10/9c), which depicts 1900s New York City as a vivid Dickensian nightmare. Though described by the series' severely flawed doctor hero John Thackery (a ravaged and mustachioed Clive Owen) as "a time of endless possibility," this Age of Progress has its limitations, with primitive ...

Surgical Theater: Cinemax's The Knick Takes a Graphic Look at 1900s-Era Medicine

Well, so much for that. Just over a year ago, Oscar- and Emmy-winning director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Behind the Candelabra) turned 50 and announced his retirement from filmmaking — a decision that left Hollywood insiders stunned and baffled. Turns out he barely had time for... read more

VIDEO: Clive Owen and His Mustache Get Bloody in the First Trailer for The Knick

Set in New York City in the early 1900s, Cinemax's new medical drama The Knick is looking to raise Cinemax to the level of sister network HBO.

Starring Clive Owen (Children of Men) as Dr. John W. Thackery, the series follows the exploits of Thackery and the groundbreaking staff at Knickerbocker Hospital as they push the bounds of medicine at a time of high mortality rates and zero antibiotics. read more
