Star Wars: Episode VII Adds Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca

Peter Mayhew will reprise his role as Chewbacca in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Mayhew, 69, played the Wookiee in the original trilogy. Original stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are also set to return for the J.J. Abrams-directed sequel, which will hit theaters in December 2015.

Adam Driver has also been cast as an unnamed villain in the project, which will be set 30 years after the events depicted in Return of the Jedi and has already begun filming.

The movie will also feature three new young leads, who have not yet been cast. Lupita Nyong'o, Jesse Plemons, John Boyega and Ed Speleers are all reportedly in contention for starring roles.
