SNL: Seth Rogen Hosts; James Franco and Other Celebs Drop By

Seth Rogen returned to Saturday Night Live for his third hosting stint this weekend, and it was distinctly not a charm.

The episode started off promisingly, with Rogen's monologue featuring cameos from celebs — some surprising (Zooey Deschanel), some predictable (James Franco), and some who were there to support musical guest Ed Sheeran (Taylor Swift). But the rest of the night was a bit of a slog, save for a bizarre sketch featuring Franco as a monster who decides to get plastic surgery to appear human.

A point of note: It's tragic that Nasim Pedrad has essentially been relegated to sketches centering on her disruptive elementary schooler Shallon. What could she possibly have done to offend the writing staff that much?

Seth Rogen Monologue: Rogen gets a little help from his friends for this monologue, which predictably relies on stoner humor. He also doesn't pass up an opportunity to poke fun at James Franco's attempted hookup with a 17-year-old via social media.

Monster Pals: James Franco and Mike O'Brien star in this digital short about two monster friends who decide to change their looks in order to be more accepted in society.

Undercover Sharpton: This polarizing sketch features Kenan Thompson as the Rev. Al Sharpton, in a spoof of the news that Sharpton reportedly worked as an undercover informant for the FBI in the 1980s. Not as good as "Dyke & Fats."

SNL is off for a few weeks, and will return on May 3 with Andrew Garfield hosting and Coldplay as the musical guest (for the fifth time).
