Well this is some much-needed good news.

Shannen Doherty gifted the world with a much-needed pleasant surprise Tuesday when she shared that she's been added to the cast of TV Land's reboot of Heathers. It's full circle for Doherty, as she played one of the titular Heathers in the 1988 cult film that also starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.

Doherty, who's been bravely and publicly battling cancer since 2015, posted a behind-the-scenes snap from the new anthology series with the caption "Jealous much?" -- suggesting that the rebellious, badass spirit she embodied as Heather Duke in the film (and as Brenda on Beverly Hills 90210) is very much alive and kicking.

TV Land to revive Heathers in new anthology series

Doherty's character in TV Land's version of the high school bitch-fest is a yet-unnamed but pivotal figure, The Hollywood Reportersays. Billed as a dark comedy akin to FX's Fargo in that it features a new group of "Heathers" in unique settings, this reboot has some modern twists too.

One of the biggest? Heather Duke (Doherty's role) is now a male -- a self-identified gender-queer born whose given name is Heath (Brendan Scannell) -- and Heather McNamara (originally played bv Lisanne Falk) is now an African-American lesbian Heather (Jasmine Mathews). Production is currently underway in Los Angeles.

TV Land has not yet announced a premiere date for Heathers.
