Who shot Fitz?

It's been the question plaguing Scandalfans all week — and unfortunately, the answer is one that will surely enrage those fans. The shooter is...

Huck (Guillermo Diaz)! Yes, Olivia's loyal soldier was seen packing up a sniper rifle while wearing a red sweater that matched the description of the shooter's. Why Huck, why?! We decided to take that very question to his portrayer, who dishes on what's in store following the shots heard round the world:

Is speed the new suspense on TV?

Did Huck really shoot Fitz (Tony Goldwyn)? Seriously?!
Guillermo Diaz:
It's [executive producer] Shonda Rhimes' world, so you never truly know what the full story is. Everybody doesn't really know Huck's past. Like, we know some of it, but we don't know his full past. We do know that he's willing to do whatever he needs to do for the job. I could see him doing it. He's capable of it.

When you turned to that page in the script, how shocked were you that Huck was standing in that room?
Diaz:
Oh my God, completely shocked. I was like, "What? It can't be!"

What could even be his motivation to kill the President?
Diaz:
Right. That's such a good question. Even just that question throws up a bunch of other questions like, "Was it Olivia [Kerry Washington] that could have possibly put him up to something?" Because he does whatever Olivia says and he's so loyal to her. Could she possibly be involved somehow? It lends itself to so many other questions. Even when that question of "Did Huck shoot the President?" is answered, then people are going to have a whole ton of other questions asking why and how could he do that? It's just going to continue on and people are just going to be more and more curious and intrigued about Huck and about what's really going on. I think at this point too, the team and even Huck don't really know the full story of what's going on and what is going down, so it's up in the air for all of them as well.

Will anyone find out about Huck's involvement? Will OPA get involved and try to help him?
Diaz:
I can say that Huck is going to become the client.

What will Quinn's (Katie Lowes) reaction be considering she's already been so suspicious of Huck? Is that going to drive an even bigger wedge between the two of them?
Diaz:
I guess it could go either way. You know how sometimes people that have done something wrong or something they're not proud of and then they find out that someone else has done the same thing? Then they feel this kind of connection with that person. It could either bring Quinn and Huck closer or it could pull them apart. I know she's questioning a lot right now, but I think eventually she's going to realize that we're all a dysfunctional family. Sometimes things happen in families that we're not proud of or that we know we shouldn't have done. But we're still family, nonetheless. You stick by each other.

Scandal Scoop: Will Harrison succumb to guilt?

You say Huck is loyal to Olivia, but will Olivia be loyal to Huck during this time?
Diaz:
Yeah. I think so. I think as much as Huck feels like he owes Olivia so much for saving him, I think Olivia feels like she owes Huck a lot as well because Huck has been there for her. He's put himself on the line for her. I think she knows that. So, I think she will stand by his side and be there for Huck and be loyal to him as well.

It seems like Huck couldn't find one of the shells for the gun at the end of the episode. Is that something that might come back to hurt him?
Diaz:
It's a possibility that that shell that he was looking for could come back to haunt him. It's certainly a possibility. Honestly, I don't know for sure right now. But I think they kind of highlighted it a little bit so it could be a possibility.

Charlie (George Newbern) returned earlier this season, so should we assume maybe he is involved with whatever went down with this shooting?
Diaz:
Yeah, man. Anything is possible. Charlie's crazy. Charlie's a trained assassin like Huck is. He's been around. We know from Season 1 that Cyrus (Jeff Perry) hired him to kill Amanda Tanner (Liza Weil). Again, he's been around. He was in that "Spies Like Us" episode, and I think he's hungry. He's hungry to work and he's a little bit angry at Huck for what Huck did to him. He's kind of a bit of a loose cannon. It's definitely a possibility.

Have you guys, as actors, been sitting around set throwing out theories as to why Huck might have done the deed?
Diaz:
Yeah. We have a little bit. I mean most of the time, we've just surrendered to it because as much as you try to guess stuff, you don't know for sure until you get that script. So we've just surrendered to the great writing and trusting Shonda and the writers and the producers that it's just going to be another edge-of-your-seat nail-biting episode and script. It's driving me crazy trying to figure stuff out. So, I just have to sit back and enjoy the ride. It's like a rollercoaster. You've just got to close your eyes and keep going.
