NBC isn't starting a Revolution on Wednesdays.
Without a lead-in from The Voice, the drama kicked off the night with 6.8 million viewers and a 1.8 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic, down more than 50 percent from its series premiere in the Mondays-at-10 spot to hit a series low. Revolution was on par with its season finale and did improve slightly on Animal Practice's and Guys with Kids' premieres in the hour last year.
A two-hour Law & Order: Special Victims Unit followed with 9.5 million and a 2.7, up six tenths from last season's opener.

Vote: Which fall premieres won you over? Which flopped?

Modern Family topped the night with 14.1 million viewers and a 4.1 for its one-hour premiere, down sharply from its 5.5 rating last year. ABC opened the night with The Middle (8.8 million, 2.4), which was down half a point, and the series premiere of Back in the Game (7.9 million, 2.2), which was up 16 percent from The Neighbors' debut last year. Nashville (6 million, 1.8) returned 25 percent down.

On CBS, the season premieres of Criminal Minds (11.3 million, 2.8) and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (9 million, 2.1) were both down a few ticks, while Fox's The X Factor (7.6 million, 2.5) grew 15 percent week-to-week.
