Ratings: Modern Family Edges Idol for First Time; Duck Dynasty Sets Record

Modern Family topped American Idol for the first time in the demo on Wednesday.
The ABC comedy scored 10.6 million viewers and a 3.9 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic, edging Idol (13.1 million, 3.8) by a tenth, according to early numbers. Idol was down three-tenths from last week and posted its lowest rating since July 2003 and smallest viewership since August 2002.

The rest of ABC's lineup was down, except for Suburgatory (6.3 million, 2.3), which grew three-tenths.
Also scoring its first head-to-head victory was NBC's Chicago Fire (6.5 million, 1.9), which beat CSI's series low of 9.3 million and a 1.8. CSI's lead-ins Survivor: Caramoan — Fans vs. Favorites (9.4 million, 2.6) and Criminal Minds 10.6 million (2.6) were up and flat, respectively
On The CW, Arrow (3.3 million, 1.0) grew a tenth and Supernatural (2.2 million, 0.9) stayed even.
On cable, Season 3 of Duck Dynasty premiered to a whopping 8.6 million viewers, jumping 132 percent from last season's debut and setting a new record for A&E as its most-watched telecast ever. It also drew 5 million viewers in the demo, up 127 percent. The return of Psych grabbed 2.9 million viewers and 1.3 million in the demo, up 20 and 22 percent, respectively from its Season 6 premiere a year ago.
