Parenthood will remain in its current timeslot on Thursdays at 10/9c for its final 13 episodes. This means there's only 13 episodes left to tie up many of the cliffhangers from the Season 5 finale, such as whether Joel (Sam Jaeger) and Julia (Erika Christensen) will really get back together and if Amber (Mae Whitman) is carrying Ryan's baby. (Watch the Season 5 finale here.)

Although Parenthood has been one of NBC's most critically acclaimed drama, it's large ensemble and well-known cast also makes it expensive to produce. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show's fate was left in question because cast members and producers were asked to take pay cuts for the show's final run.

Fall TV scorecard: What's renewed? What's canceled?

The series is one of several shows that will say farewell next season, including Parks and Recreation, Glee, and Cougar Town. Parenthood will also reach its milestone 100th episode in Season 6.

Jason Katims, who adapted the 1989 film for the small screen, is also the executive producer behind the NBC comedy About a Boy.
