The closest thing the world has to a professional awards show host, Neil Patrick Harris, has been tapped to host the Oscars on Feb. 22, 2015, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday.

"It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year's Academy Awards. I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show," Harris said in a statement. "To be asked to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, and everyone else who had the great fortune of hosting is a bucket list dream come true."

Of course, the former How I Met Your Mother star is no stranger to hosting televised events that send actors home with new hardware. Harris has hosted the Tony Awards four times (taking home Emmys for Outstanding Special Class Program each time) and the Emmy Awards twice. After hosting the Oscars, he'll only need to host the Grammys to be eligible for an extra special EGOT.

Harris recently completed a four-month run as Hedwig in the Broadway production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, for which he took home the 2014 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. And from what we know of his musical prowess and awards-hosting history, we can probably count on a splashy opening number at the Oscars. It's just too bad he already performed the greatest opening number in all of awards show history at the 2013 Tony Awards. Check it out below:

The Oscars will air live on ABC on Feb. 22, 2015 at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT. Are you excited to see NPH take the stage?
