Top Moments: American Idol's Coming Out and Cameron Diaz's Frightening Appearance

Our top moments of the week:

10. Worst Scare Tactic: Jake realizes that Boyle is going "full Boyle," aka falling too hard for a girl too quickly, and tries to stop it to save Boyle's blossoming relationship on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. However, when Jake makes Boyle leave his date early, Boyle goes right to a pawn shop to buy an engagement ring. Jakes swipes the ring and threatens to throw it into the dirty water of a nearby hot dog street vendor. Boyle then pepper sprays Jake to get the ring back, and Jake pepper sprays Boyle for pepper spraying him. Phew! Good thing nobody overreacted to anything!

9. Weirdest Happy Ending: For a moment there, we were worried the best part of The Walking Deadwould be lost  after the fall of the prison. But the series' return proved us wrong. We relive Michonne's heartbreak when she hallucinates about her charming, pre-zombie apocalypse life -- when her former pet was actually her boyfriend and she was a doting mother. It's a rude awakening when she realizes that's not her reality any more. Fortunately, she reunites with Carl and Rick, who is now her surrogate family. Sad/happy face?

8. Grossest Family Bonding: John and Kathryn's recent marital problems reach a boiling point when Kathryn goes on a trip to New York without her husband on Switched at Birth. Left with the house all to himself, John invites his son Toby's, new mother-in-law, Jennice, to watch the big fight with him. However, things get heated quickly and after reminiscing about John's old Major League Baseball days, Jennice leans forward and kisses him right as Regina walks by the window and subsequently catches them mid-lip lock. That's one way to welcome Jennice to the Kennish family?!

7. Pull the Punches Award: On New Girl, Schmidt devises a master plan to date the gorgeous daughter of his rabbi, who is not Schmidt's biggest fan. Nick is supposed to ruin the bar mitzvah, so that Schmidt can knock him out and save the day. However, when Nick starts aggressively making out with an older woman in the middle of the dance floor, Schmidt waits too long for his cue and another man punches Nick right in the eye. But on the bright side, Schmidt's plan totally works ... for the other guy. The rabbi asks if the other man would like to date his daughter, and once again, Schmidt is left loveless and alone.

6. Worst Birthday: On The Bachelor, Juan Pablo continues his charming ways by sending Cassandra home early, during the group date, on her 22nd birthday. While we approve of the decision (just turning 22 is too young even for this show), couldn't she have at least gotten a cake?    

5. Best Love Scene: Pretty Little Liarsstages a noir-inspired episode in black and white. For one couple, Paige and Emily, the major difference between the present and the 1940s-set alternate universe is the fact that they have to be completely back in the closet. But the two still manage to have the most romantic — and sexiest — love scene, getting hot and heavy in the bedroom, that very much feels real.

4. Best Shot: It's only February, but we may have seen the best TV scene of the year already. True Detective ends its fourth episode with an epic uninterrupted six-minute sequence in which Cohle raids a stash house. Tracking Cohle from room to room through two homes, in the streets, over a fence and eventually into Hart's car all during a shootout, the climactic, gripping scene is a masterful feat of choreography, storytelling and filmmaking that raises the bar for all other TV shows.

3. Best Scare Tactic: Cameron Diaz stops by The Ellen DeGeneres Show to reminiscence about the 20th anniversary of her first acting gig ever, opposite Jim Carrey in The Mask. DeGeneres specifically asks Diaz if the mask ever scared her just as a man dressed in the yellow suit and bright green masks emerges from behind the stage and sneaks behind Diaz's chair. While the actress is mid-sentence, the man shouts "Boo!" and Diaz lets out a short but loud scream right before she collapses over the side of the chair laughing. Happy anniversary, Cam!

2. Best Sportsmanship: Russian Anton Gafarov's medal hopes were gone after he falls twice and breaks his ski in the cross-country sprint semifinals at the Winter Olympics, but he's determined to cross the finish line. As he struggles with his busted ski, Canadian cross-country coach Justin Wadsworth runs out and gives Gafarov a new ski. If that's not the Olympic spirit, we don't know what is.

1. Calmest Coming Out: M.K. Nobilette becomes American Idol's first openly gay contestant when she presents her case to advance to the semifinals. "I'm very obviously gay," she says. "And there are always going to be people in America and everywhere else who are definitely going to hate. But I think in the last few years there have been a lot of things that have changed that and have really made it a positive thing." The judges agree and without reservation put her through to the live rounds. Congrats, M.K.!
