"It's been an interesting year, no question about it," he told Jay Leno on The Tonight Show Thursday. "But the fact of the matter is, every day millions of people still invite us into their homes to deliver the news. I am not a guy who complains. I love this job. I really do."

Lauer also praised his colleague Kathie Lee Gifford, who organized a letter of support for the co-anchor. "My mother always told me in times of adversity you find out who your friends are — Kathie Lee's a great friend," he said.Lauer has been the subject of much criticism recently, after a New York Times report suggested he was to blame for Ann Curry's departure and rumors surfaced that Anderson Cooper might replace him.
