Mary Louise Parker Says She's Quitting Acting Because the Internet Is Too Mean

Apparently Alec Baldwin isn't the only actor who wants to quit show business.

Mary Louise Parker says she wants to stop acting thanks in small part to all those mean online haters. "I'm not really that into it anymore," the 48-year-old told News Corp Australia of acting while promoting her new film R.I.P.D."The world has gotten too mean for me, it's just too b----y. All the websites and all the blogging and all the people giving their opinion and their hatred ... it's all so mean-spirited, it's all so critical.

"It's sport for people, it's fun to get on at night and unleash their own self-loathing by attacking someone else who they think has a happier life - or something," she continued.

Although Parker said she tries to not let such harsh comments get to her, she insists it's easier said than done. "I don't know if you can imagine a friend sending you something they thought was funny, that was something mean someone wrote about you and there's like 50 comments from complete strangers across the world about you. And you can say, 'Oh, I let it roll off my back' and 'I wouldn't take it personally,' but you have no idea until it happens to you. It doesn't feel nice," she said. "I stay away from it as best I can because I'm too thin-skinned, but still it finds you."

However, fans of The West Wing and Weeds actress can breathe easy because she isn't throwing in the towel just quite yet. "I don't know how many more movies I wanna do," she said. "I wouldn't mind doing a TV show again, I'd like to do a couple more plays, but I'm almost done acting, I think."

So, what will she do once she leaves acting for good? It sounds like Parker would keep herself plenty busy. "I would write still. I write for Esquire and writing makes me happy. I would take care of my kids and my goats. That's about it. Bake. Throw my internet in the lake," she said.

Parker can currently be seen in Red 2 and, next, R.I.P.D., which hits theaters on Friday.
