Olympic skier Lindsay Vonn has been airlifted to the hospital after being involved in a serious crash on the slopes on Tuesday, The Associated Press reports.
According to the AP, Vonn crashed during the super-G in Austria, injuring her right knee. She reportedly lost her balance while landing a jump, at which point her ski came off, causing Vonn to slide off course and eventually hit a gate. Vonn was treated for twelve minutes on the slope before being airlifted to the hospital. The accident comes a year before the 2014 Winter Olympics are set to start and a month after Vonn returned to the circuit after a brief hiatus. For almost a month, the skier refrained from racing to recover from an intestinal illness.Shortly before her crash, Vonn was behind race leader, Slovenia's Tina Maze, by only 0.12 seconds.
