Lifetime has announced plans for a sequel to Flowers in the Atticone week before the highly anticipated TV movie premieres.

Flowers in the Attic is an adaptation of V.C. Andrews' racy, incest-laden 1979 novel about a group of siblings who are forced to live in secret in their grandmother's attic after their father is killed in a car accident. It stars Ellen Burstyn as the grandmother, Heather Graham as the children's mother, Corrine Dollanganger and Kiernan Shipka as older sister Cathy Dollanganger.

Winter TV 2014: Must-see new shows

Petals on the Wind is the second in the five-book Dollanganger series and picks up — spoiler alert — after the siblings' successful escape from Foxworth Hall. However, the Lifetime adaptation will pick up further down the road.

"It basically takes place about 10 years after the first movie ends," screenwriter Kayla Alpert told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Thursday. "It is a very juicy, compelling revenge drama."

Flowers in the Attic will premiere on Lifetime on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 8/7c. Are you excited for the sequel?
